Course dates


The online course ‘Co-designing migrant integration in your city’ provides detailed guidance for developing integration policies in a collaborative manner for practitioners from local, regional and national authorities interested in developing more participative integration strategies and frameworks. It also provides the tools to ensure meaningful participation of migrants and refugees in the design, implementation and evaluation of local integration policies and measures.




Rationale


This Online Course is designed to provide practitioners with tools to co-design integration strategies at the local level. The MOOC will be one of the first of its kind in Europe and will be available for a wide audience on the Global Campus for Human Rights online platform. The MOOC provides detailed guidance for developing integration policies in a collaborative manner for practitioners from local, regional and national authorities interested in developing more participative integration strategies and frameworks. It also provides the tools to ensure meaningful participation of migrants and refugees in the design, implementation and evaluation of local integration policies and measures. This online course covers the most relevant concepts for co-designing integration strategies, the different stages of the policy cycle and real experiences of collaborative integration policy from cities across Europe.

MIGRATION WORK


juliana fornasier

Juliana Fornasier

Juliana is currently pursuing a PhD with a focus on migrant integration policies at the local level in Europe. She is a member of MigrationWork and is also involved in other research projects in the field of migration. Previously, Juliana has worked for international organisations such as the International Organization for Migration and the International Centre for Migration Policy Development.

Dirk Gebhardt

Dirk Gebhardt

Dirk is a director of MigrationWork and has 15 years of experience in transnational learning with city councils on migration, housing and employment. He holds a PhD in Urban Geography from Humboldt University Berlin and is an associate lecturer at Universitat Pompeu Fabra in Barcelona,

Ceri Hutton

Ceri Hutton

Ceri is a MigrationWork director with over 30 years experience working in human rights with a focus on migration. She has extensive experience facilitating learning between groups, organisations and cities and has supported a wide range of local, national and international organisations to learn and develop through both evaluation and qualitative research.

Bella Kosmala

Bella Kosmala

Bella is a MigrationWork director and an expert consultant on transnational learning in Eurocities' migrant integration projects. She has worked in regional government under London Mayor Sadiq Khan as the policy lead on Brexit and citizens' rights and currently runs a legal advice charity dedicated to securing the rights of migrants and refugees in the UK.

Sue Lukes

Sue Lukes

Sue has been working with migrants since the 1970s, specialising more recently in local service provision and governance. She is the author of many guides, toolkits and academic papers on these and related topics. She is a director of MigrationWork has served as a local councillor and council executive member, and chairs the NGO Hear Me Out.

Anthony Colclough

Anthony is Senior Communications Advisor at Eurocities. He has six years of experience being deeply embedded in urban migrant integration projects and has worked for over a decade in education and course design. He holds Master's degrees in Creative Writing, Philosophy and European Studies.

Carolina Picot

Carolina Picot

Carolina is Project Officer at Eurocities. Her expertise focuses on social innovation, migrant inclusion, decolonisation and anti-racism. She worked on EU-funded urban migrant integration projects such as CONNECTION and CONSOLIDATE. She holds a Master’s degree in Security, Peace and Conflict Studies.

Rossella Nicoletti

Rossella Nicoletti

Rossella is Senior Project Coordinator at Eurocities. She manages complex framework contracts and projects on migration and integration involving cities and local stakeholders to build capacity of local authorities and foster exchange of good practices and knowledge. She is also experienced in public policy evaluation, including impact assessment and evaluation methods.

Enrolment

How do I enrol in the course?

You can start the enrolment process by clicking the "enrol now" button. If you are new to this platform, you will be asked to register first.

Is there a selection procedure to participate in the course?

The course is a MOOC (Massive Open Online Course), which means we do not select participants on any basis. Rather, we welcome anyone who is interested in learning more about the topic to enrol and participate for free.

Our course is a MOOC (Massive Open Online Course), which means all components are open and totally free for anyone.

Do I need to pay any fee to attend the course?

There are no registration or tuition fees. The certificate of participation is also free and offered to all those who successfully complete all the course requirements (see below for details on the certificate).

Accessibility

Is the course accessible to persons with disabilities?

We want all participants in our courses to enjoy a great learning experience and we strive to always improve accessibility. Each week of the course includes one or two video lectures with accompanying transcripts and reading materials. The texts are in PDF format, work at low bandwidths, are printable and can be zoomed to the desired size. Some readings may include pages from accessible websites. This makes all of them accessible to those who use assistive technology software such as screen readers. Likewise, weekly discussions and module quizzes can be completed through our platform which is accessible, for example, to people who use speech input, keyboard accessible controls or text to speech tools. Structure and content

Is there a schedule for the course or is it self-directed?

The course is self-paced so participants can study in their own time.

Certificate of completion

What do I need to do to get a certificate of completion?

When you reach the end of the course, you can request a certificate of completion. Upon such request, we will check that you have actively participated in all required exercises and quizzes and have regularly indicated you have done so by clicking on the "Mark as complete" button. If this is the case, you will then receive a certificate confirming that you have completed the course.

I am not interested in a certificate. Can I still audit the course?

Yes. All our courses can be audited for free. If you audit a course, you can participate in any or all activities and quizzes and complete them, but you will not receive a certificate. Do you still want some proof of participation? You can simply print the progress chart that you will find in your course page.
